Ready to mark up your calendars? Here are a few important tax deadlines that small business owners and self-employed individuals should remember in 2025.
Filing Deadlines:
S Corp and Partnerships: March 17
1040 and Schedule C: April 15
Extensions:
The above dates are also the deadlines to file an extension. Extension can be filed for free using the IRS Free File program, or by mailing in your forms, but they must be postmarked by the date above. Remember that an extension is an extension to file NOT to pay.
Income tax is considered a "pay as you go" tax. If you don’t have taxes withheld from your paycheck like a W-2 employee, you should be making Estimated Tax Payments (sometimes referred to colloquially as "quarterlies") throughout the year.
Estimated Tax Payments:
Q1 April 15
Q2 June 16
Q3 Sept 15
Q4 January 16, 2026
If you don’t make Estimated Tax Payments you will be charged a penalty, which is based on the amount you owe when you file.
